a couple of weeks ago i attended the 90th anniversary ball for the jozef pilsudski polish supplementary school in jersey city. the school serves to teach the traditions, language, and history to many immigrant and polish-descent families in the jc community.
i attended the saturday school from second grade, since the year my family and i moved to the us from poland in order to continue learning the language of the country i was born in, along with its history and customs. when i graduated the school, i wanted to give back to the organization what was intertwined in many aspects of my being, and i became a teacher of the first grade for four years. being a student has shaped me into the person i am today, fully aware and proud of my background. likewise, being a teacher was a rich and rewarding experience, having the chance to pass on what i have learned.
