vote to help 100 girls like her stay in school for seven years. more than me was founded by katie meyler, whom i had the pleasure to meet at a benefit event in jersey city. the organization helps get little girls in liberia off the slum streets and into school, providing everything a girl needs to get to school; scholarship, supplies, uniform, shoes, books etc. the program also run a school feeding program as well as an after school sports program teaching character. Vote for a good cause to get more than me to become the winner of the chase community giving contest !! a couple of weeks ago i attended the 90th anniversary ball for the jozef pilsudski polish supplementary school in jersey city. the school serves to teach the traditions, language, and history to many immigrant and polish-descent families in the jc community. i attended the saturday school from second grade, since the year my family and i moved to the us from poland in order to continue learning the language of the country i was born in, along with its history and customs. when i graduated the school, i wanted to give back to the organization what was intertwined in many aspects of my being, and i became a teacher of the first grade for four years. being a student has shaped me into the person i am today, fully aware and proud of my background. likewise, being a teacher was a rich and rewarding experience, having the chance to pass on what i have learned. a quick recap of the event below, with some highlights of my speech and skit: below is the press coverage as well as a copy of my speech and certificate for my teaching contribution. an elegant ana beatriz barros is photographed by koray birand against a backdrop of luxury for harper's bazaar turkey november 2011 issue. |
